"NITO membership gives me security, network and professional replenishment," says Alma Bendiksen from Oslo. She believes more people should study science and become NITO members.
Bendiksen is taking a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at NTNU in Trondheim and will continue on to her master's degree next year. She loves chemistry and describes the laboratory work as being a detective. "Every experiment we do in the lab provides answers to mysteries large and small," she says eagerly.
She is passionate about her subject. In the lab, they do everything from chemistry to microbiology, which often contains E. coli, but she emphasizes that it is not scary with E. coli in the lab because all the students master sterile technology.

What are crash courses?
- The crash courses help me to do better in exams, says Bendiksen.
A crash course in maths is a course that prepares you for an exam, arranged by NITO. The course helps you get a quick introduction to key topics from the mathematics syllabus before an exam. Here you get a useful refresher in the syllabus, the opportunity to ask questions, and you can share experiences with fellow students.

Insurance is good to have
- Home contents insurance and other insurances as well are very good to have then, says Bendiksen.
NITO members get a good price on insurance through the insurance company Tryg. In the student membership, you get insurance included.
- It's nice to use the various benefits and hunt for new member benefits and discounts I can use, says Bendiksen.
Pondering which mast
The time to choose a master's programme is approaching. Bendiksen is unsure whether she should choose a direction in materials technology or in sustainability and management. She knows that both are important for the green shift.
"It's nice to discuss such decisions with my NITO network and hear other people's experiences," she says.
Her commitment to technology and science does not stop with her own education. Alongside her studies, she works as a private tutor for secondary school and high school students.
"I do everything I can to inspire young people to choose science subjects. I want more people to find solutions to the challenges we surround ourselves with. It is rewarding to see that students who struggle with, for example, mathematics begin to master the subject," she says.
