About NITO
NITO is Norway's largest organization for engineers and technologists with bachelor's, master's and higher degrees. NITO is a politically independent, independent trade union organisation.
Established in 1936
The Norwegian Association of Engineers and Technicians was founded in Oslo on 1 March 1936. The 28 who participated in the founding meeting were representatives from the country's four intermediate technical schools.
The aim of the new organisation was both to safeguard professional and educational interests and to safeguard the economic and social conditions of its members.
We are leading the way. We have the knowledge. We care.
NITO's development has gone from 700 members in 1936 to over 117,000 members in 2026.
Together with 4500 union representatives across the country, NITO will ensure good working conditions, create economic and professional value for its members, and highlight the value of technologists in society.
