The Central Board of NITO Students 2025-2026

What are NITO Students?

This is the student organization for master's and bachelor's students in engineering and technology. NITO has 16,000 student members and is represented at 25 campuses across the country.

NITO Students work for the interests of technology and engineering students. We are a nationwide and democratic organization, with local branches on campuses with engineering and technology education.

Did you know that NITO's initiative to organize "technical students" in 1950 is a forerunner of the Norwegian Student Organization?

The current organization of students in NITO was founded in 2002, and NITO is today Norway's strongest educational policy voice for engineering and technology students.

You can be a part of this. As a student representative in NITO, you decide which events will be held at your place of study, you contribute to developing NITO's opinions on education policy, and ensure you and your fellow students an easier transition to working life.

NITO Students is part of NITO – Norway's largest organization for engineers and technologists.

Involvement during your studies is a good career choice

Getting involved alongside your studies makes you more attractive to future employers, gives you the opportunity for personal development and access to a large network.

NITO Students influence your everyday studies. Among other things, we have received money in the national budget for equipment in technological education, we have put the problem of dropout on the agenda, and not least given thousands of students subject-relevant and career-enhancing courses.

If you want to

  • create the engineering and technology education of the future
  • Gain board and project management experience
  • Develop your collaboration skills
  • meet other committed fellow students

NITO Students' work programme

NITO Students work actively with the ministries, politicians and other organizations to gain acceptance for our policies.

The organization has its own board consisting of eight students, who adopt hearings and political input based on the national meeting's decisions.

Do you want to know more about NITO Students' policy?

The Central Board shall:

  • Strengthen the students' understanding of trade unions through national visibility of the role of trade unions and the value of organisation
  • Work to improve the quality of engineering and technology education
  • Create an impact for NITO Students' priorities with relevant actors and partners
  • Work for greater recruitment to engineering and technology education
  • Have a good interaction with and include the local branch boards in political campaigns
  • Strengthen the focus on professional courses with a better offer for local union representatives
  • Further develop and use the student survey to strengthen the organization's advocacy work
  • Work for good funding of alternative admission routes to engineering education
  • Work to link student support to a minimum of 1.5G

The local branch boards shall:

  • Strengthen students' understanding of trade union organisation, and help more students choose to organise
  • Highlight NITO Students' role as a student organisation, both on campus and digitally
  • Arrange at least 2 social, 1 career-oriented and 2 professional courses each semester
  • Strengthen the transition from student to working life through better contact with working people and inform about our career-relevant member services
